The Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Hon Judith Nabakooba officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the launch of road construction in Kitgum Municipality.
Kitgum, is one of the 8 new Municipalities that were included in the second phase of USMID, also known as the USMID-AF. The other 7 in the same category are; Apac, Lugazi, Ntungamo, Kasese, Mubende, Busia and Kamuli. The 8 joined an already existing team of 14 Municipalities, some had been converted into Cities, under the first phase of USMID.
In Kitgum, the works commissioned to commence construction are;
(i) Oneka main & 5 access roads
(ii) Apila Road
(iii) Ayaa Hellen Dean & Access Road
(iv) Kitgum road
(v) Janan Luwum Road
(vi) Lakidi Road
(vii) Phillip Adonga Road all measuring up to 2.929kms.
The roads will all be constructed with drainages and solar street lights, greening, among many other features.
